Patrick Henry papers, 1779-1780.

This two item collection consists of a deed and a land grant. The deed was signed by Patrick Henry transferring land on Elkhorn Creek in Kentucky to Robert Johnson of Orange County, Virginia, Sept. 13, 1779. The land grant was originally a 1774 survey of land near Elkhorn Creek in Kentucky for Patrick Henry but was used by Henry to grant land to Thomas Madison. It was signed by Patrick Henry, May 27, 1780.

Patrick Henry (May 29, 1736 – June 6, 1799) was an American attorney, planter, politician, and orator known for declaring to the Second Virginia Convention (1775): "Give me liberty, or give me death!"
